Specialized Breast Center
YGEIA Group – Agrinio | Zakynthos | Lefkada
The Specialized Breast Center of the YGEIA Group is one of the most advanced and specialized breast care units in Greece. It is organized and operates in accordance with the standards of the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA) and meets the requirements for an EUSOMA-certified Breast Unit, providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and evidence-based care to women with breast breast.
Medical Team & Volume-Based Quality Assurance Standards:
ll radiologists at the Center are certified breast, με αποκλειστική ενασχόληση στην απεικόνιση του breast radiologists, exclusively dedicated to breast imaging, with a documented annual case volume per physician and per unit, according to international standards (EUSOMA/ACR/EUSOBI). Operation is governed by standardized protocols and a Quality Assurance (QA) system with continuous monitoring of performance indicators (KPIs), such as: recall rates, positive predictive value of biopsies (PPV), preoperative histological documentation rates, turnaround times, and detection indices in dense breasts. Double reading is applied where required, as well as peer review/morbidity-mortality meetings, multidisciplinary tumor boards, and ongoing education (CME/CPD). No examination is performed or interpreted by a non-specialized physician.
Digital BreastTomosynthesis (3D DBT)
High-accuracy three-dimensional imaging
Digital breast tomosynthesis is applied as a first-line method. During the examination, the mammography system performs multiple acquisitions at different angles, which are computationally reconstructed into a three-dimensional representation of tissue architecture, allowing slice-by-slice reading and overcoming the limitations of tissue overlap.
Advantages
- Enhanced diagnostic accuracy in dense breasts
- Identification of microcalcifications, architectural distortions, and very small lesions
- Reduction of false-positive/false-negative findings
- Precise anatomical localization of abnormalities
- Fewer additional examinations or biopsies
- Greater comfort for the patient
(Full compliance with ACR BI-RADS® & EUSOBI.)
High-Resolution Digital Mammography (FFDM)
Second-generation digital mammography with high-resolution flat-panel detectors delivers sharp images with patient-specific radiation dose adjustment.
Technical features:
- High resolution with real-time adjustment of contrast/brightness
- Electronic archiving in DICOM-PACS with comparative analysis capability
- Minimized retakes – rapid workflow
- Applicable in screening and symptomatic patients

Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The diagnostic process is supported by certified AI/ML platforms that enhance sensitivity and consistency of interpretation.
Includes:
- Computer-Aided Detection (CAD)
- Automated BI-RADS® categorization
- Volumetric Breast Density Estimation (e.g., Volpara™, Quantra™)
- Computational Malignancy Likelihood tools
- Full integration into DICOM workflow and QA protocols
Final diagnosis rests exclusively with the certified breast radiologists of the Center. breast του Κέντρου.

Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
The MRI breast is performed at 1.5T/3T with a dedicated bilateral breast coil, based on specialized ACR/EUSOMA protocols.
Protocols:
- T1, T2, STIR/Fat-suppressed sequences
- Dynamic Contrast‑Enhanced (DCE‑MRI), Subtraction & MIP reconstructions
- Kinetic curve analysis (wash‑in/wash‑out)
- DWI/ADC maps where appropriate
Indications:
- Preoperative mapping (multifocality/multicentricity)
- Monitoring response to neoadjuvant therapy
- Contralateral control breast
- Supplementary investigation of indistinct findings
- Checking implants & postoperative area
- Surveillance of high-risk women (BRCA1/2, strong family history)
Ultrasound Breast High Definition
Ultrasound examination is performed with linear heads ≥12MHz, Tissue Harmonic/Compound Imaging, Color/Power Doppler, cine-loops and targeted magnification capabilities.
Clinical applications:
- Differentiating cysts from solid lesions
- Focused examination of palpable/incidental findings
- Assessment of inflammation/abscesses
- Monitoring benign lesions
- Guidance of invasive procedures
(According to ACR BI‑RADS®, SRU, EFSUMB.)
Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy (Core Needle)
Core-needle biopsy under ultrasound guidance for safe and reliable histological documentation.
- Local anesthesia, real-time targeting
- Sampling with 14G–16G
- Sending to accredited pathology laboratories
- Reducing the need for surgical diagnosis
Elastography Breast
- Strain and Shear‑Wave Elastography for quantitative assessment of elasticity (kPa / m/s), particularly useful in BI‑RADS® 3–4.
- Improving diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound
- Reduction of unnecessary biopsies
- Compliance with EFSUMB/SRU protocols
Hook-Wire Placement
Preoperative localization of non-palpable lesions or microcalcifications under ultrasound or mammography guidance.
- Precise targeting – preservation of healthy tissue
- Position confirmation with post-placement shots
- Optimization of surgical resection
Magnification Views
Targeted scans to further clarify areas of increased density, asymmetry/architecture disruption or calcification complexes, with special compressors and high-definition detectors.
- Analytical assessment of morphology/distribution
- Decision guidance: monitoring, biopsy or surgical treatment
